“Coffee: The daytime stumbling, stretching, yawning, dragging, cotton mouthed, gulping…”

Vicks NyQuil (a cold medicine) has long had the advertising slogan, “The Nighttime Sniffling Sneezing Coughing Aching Stuffy Head Fever So You Can Rest Medicine.” A coffee parody of this—“Coffee: The daytime stumbling, stretching, yawning, dragging, cotton mouthed, gulping, so I don’t kill you medicine”—has been printed on many images.

“#CoffeeQuote - Coffee The Daytime, Stumbling, Stretching, Yawing, Dragging, Cotton Mouth, Gulping, S http://pinterest.com/pin/355291858076824818/” was posted on Twitter by Elizabeth Hall on August 30, 2014. “Coffee: The daytime stumbling, stretching, yawning, dragging, cotton mouthed, gulping, so I don’t kill you medicine” (shown on an image) was posted on Twitter by on May 8, 2015. The saying probably originated with this image.

“Whiskey: The nighttime sniffling, sneezing, how the hell did I end up on the kitchen floor medicine” is a related saying.

Wikipedia: NyQuil
Vicks NyQuil is a brand of over-the-counter medication manufactured by Procter & Gamble intended for the relief of various symptoms of the common cold. All medications within the NyQuil imprint contain sedating antihistamines, hypnotics, and/or alcohol, and are intended to be taken before sleep. Its daytime counterpart is antihistamine free DayQuil, formulated to avoid drowsiness. NyQuil is also used as a sleep aid. NyQuil was first marketed in the United States in 1966. Its name may be a portmanteau of nighttime tranquility.
