Hi, there, Mr. Popik ! I tracked your site down after reading one of your articles on Red State about antisemitism, then noticing you actually wrote several. I decided to write to you because, politically, were I an American, I believe I would also tend to situate myself slightly right off center along the spectrum of personal polical preferences, actually in a little log cabin, probably by myself, because I do not tend to make friends easily, and it took me a VERY long time (read YEARS) to actually start writing something in public on a blog. My catalyst was my relocation, 9 months ago, to the Kingdom of Norway, its SW part, Rogaland county to be more exact. And, although I have lived and worked on 3 continents, and travelled on 4, and consider myself somewhat of an expert in cultural adaptations...was I in for a cultural shock in true borderline personality disordered contemporary Norway. hence my disquietude and tendency to start babbling, without any prior practice or talent, on a couple of blogs, “B.U.F.A.R.R.”, this one in 4 different languages, and “555blue”, this one in English.

Talking about antisemitism, it is well known that Norwegian society is indeed an antisemitic one. This has been noted in several places, including omnipenetrating Wikipedia DOT org.

So, when for the last month or even longer I have to walk past a huge red swastika on a wall in 2011 every time when I go grocery shopping or wish to go to a nearby mall, I felt some disquiet and indignation, I waited for a while for someone to do something about it (since I know that in general Norwegians like a clean environment and are actually experts at recycling various types of garbage, plsu they tend to vote LEFT)...yet nothing happened. People walk by that sign EVERY single day not giving it a second thought. And it is so ugly.

I do not have much against artistic grafitti, but let it be artistic. There is NOTHING artistic about a crudely red huge (more than 1 yard in diagonal) swastika on a wall on one’s way to the grocery store, to the gas station, or to the mall. It is just plain DISGUSTING.

Where to report this so it makes an impact, so it shakes Local slumber prone Norwegians a bit ?

I thought about the local Newspaper, but then it gets buried in the local news, and doesn’t mean very much. I thought about one of those huge antisemitism watch blogs, but then it is just one report among hundreds, so one more one less, again, does not make a significant impact.

So I am asking your advice. Please NOTE that I am very shy by nature, not seeker of publicity, almost a recluse, and COULD NEVER see myself giving interviews on local public TV...even that NOTION and idea makes me want to throw up in fear (anxiety), and this is NOT likely to change, so I say, “no, thank you” to Xanax (Alprazolam), or Inderal (Propranolol) as possible remedies. To desensitization “techniques” just as well, “thanks, but no thanks”.

I even thought to actually SUE somebody, i.e. the County, (which in Norway seems to actually take pretty seriously, at least on paper, the general well-being of its inhabitants), for causing me pain and suffering and even weight loss, because of avoidance of going to the grocery store, just so I do not see that swastika there day after day after day. But then I though that an opposing counsel might accuse me of fudging on the issues that I can actually stand to lose some weight so no harm done ! Plus also that one NEEDS to avoid going to the grocery store very often ANYWAY in Norway since food, with the exception of marzipan, (YES, truly !), is so exorbitantly expensive.

So I am stuck...like Buridan’s Ass, torturing myself about what to do. What do you say I should do ? What would YOU do, if you were me, a shy physician, psychiatrist to boot ?

The swastika is on the rigt hand side of the street called Gartnerveien (Gardner’s way), as one travels from South to North, leaving the shopping mall Kilden on the left behind, and going towards cross street Fridtjof Nansens way where it, the latter crosses over into Moelleveien, in the neighborhood of Hillevaag. I hate it (the swastika, not the neighborhood. The neighborhood is a quiet residential one, without too many drug dealers).

P.S. Sorry for posting sort of off-topic, but I was attracted by the Mock-a-mole expression because it reminded me of Moelleveien, the street that if I reach coming from S to N, it means I have escaped the swastika on the wall specter, yet if I reach going from N to S, it means I have to take heart because it is coming my way.

Plus I also consider myself some sort of SUBVERSIVE “mole” in Norway, having the notion that I wish to fantasize I could be a societal observer and occasional reporter, while at the same time weaving SUBVERSIVE plans to create a NEW grassroots movement in Norway that would one day grow into a real political party, which would be my at my pleasure to call the Classical Romantical Democratic Party.
At first I also had some anti-monarchic thoughts, but I have become romantically innamorated with both the handsome Haakon, Crown Prince of Norway, plus with all members of the Royal Palace Guard, so I gave up on my antimonarchic revolutionary thoughts. I find myself now a LONE MOLE in Norway, having cut ties with my former country’s institutional intelligence organization, not yet attached to another Foreign Intelligence Service equivalent, without much cash in my pockets, thus being for sale to the highest bidder, also on my way to conversion from Eastern Christian Orthodoxy to Reform Judaism out of solidarity with all swastika haters of the world...quite a lonely position to find oneself into, don’t you think ?

Here’s the Royal Family of Norway:

Here’s His Majesty’s Royal Guard in action in Paris:

And the Royal Guard Orchestra and Marching Band:

If anyone wishes to become a supporter of the HMKG (Hans Majestet Kongens Garde, His Majesty’s Royal Guard), which has as mascot a PENGUIN named Nils Olav II, with current rank of Colonel-in-Chief, and currently residing in the Edinburgh Zoo.
