On the road again for the Texas-OU football game? Then how about some highlights you can hit while you’re headed up Interstate 35? If, after 100 miles of hard road, you get a hankering for some fat, just pull off the highway, head into Waco, and drop in at Krispy Chicken, a fried chicken joint at 601 S. 11th St.

This is a budget meal. For $3, you can get an order of 15 chicken tails with fries. Chicken tails are those little bouncy balls of fun that you find—one per bird—on the back end of the chicken. Brad Davis, whose dad, Lewis Davis, owns the place, says the popular chicken tails are known as “South Waco shrimp.” So this is what passes for seafood in Waco. “We sell out of ‘em every day,” said Brad, who adds that the chicken tails are a big favorite at the VA hospital.
