“Who decided to call them ‘murder hornets’ and not ‘buzzkills’?”

In 2020, the United States experienced an invasion of “murder hornets” from Asia.

“Can we change the name of murder hornets to ‘buzzkills’? #MurderHornets” was posted on Twitter by M. Oliphant on May 3, 2020. “WAIT WHO CALLED THEM ‘MURDER HORNETS’ AND NOT BUZZKILLS” was posted on Twitter by Sam Corbin on May 4, 2020. “Who decided to call them ‘murder hornets’ and not ‘buzzkills’?” was posted on Reddit—Dadjokes on May 6, 2020.

“When the murder hornets take a life, do they call it a buzzkill?” is a similar joke.

Wikipedia: Asian giant hornet
The Asian giant hornet (Vespa mandarinia), including the former subspecies referred to as the “Japanese giant hornet” is the world’s largest hornet. It is native to temperate and tropical East Asia, South Asia, Mainland Southeast Asia, and parts of the Russian Far East. It was also found in the Pacific Northwest of North America in late 2019, with no reports since to suggest that they have become established there.
