Please note: This is a past exhibit that is no longer installed in the park.
Description:
Sitting in the Apple, users will be able to enjoy a 360-degree view of their surroundings at all times. Since the arrival of Covid-19, citizens have taken to the streets and local parks more frequently to get their daily exercise and enjoy a change of scenery. This Apple is BIG on ensuring that distancing measures are maintained while participants enjoy their urban discoveries. Not only is the modern cutout slices design airy, but the space also allows for only one family or couple at a time in the core.
This exhibition is presented by Hudson Yards Hells Kitchen Alliance .

Big Apple bench art installation
Presented by DIX2, Big Apple is a temporary public art installation in Bella Abzug Park in Hell’s Kitchen. Created by designer Felix Marzell, Big Apple will serve as a new meeting place in the heart of the bustling city, with benches inside allowing visitors to sit within the wooden structure. Whether alone or in a group, Big Apple makes for a perfect spot to come together and create new shared stories and experiences.

On view for through September 2022, Big Apple‘s structure is made of various layers of coated plywood fixed around a central axis with each wooden wedge being designed to create one seat once assembled. The sculpture is presented by the Hudson Yards Hell’s Kitchen Alliance with support from NYC Parks and funding from the Québec Government Office in New York and Amazon NYC.

New to this year’s holiday programming is the installation of “The Big Apple, A Musical Tree and Music Box,” created by DIX au carré and Canadian-based urban art designer Felix Marzell. It will be located at the northern tip of Dante Park and will allow families can crank the handle and sing along to traditional holiday classics with a karaoke-style kick. At the southern end of Dante Park is another new musical tree created by Marzell that will allow families to become musicians themselves and play Jingle Bells for all to hear.

And here is a really fun public art installation that actually has a bench on the inside for people to sit on. The picture below is from Lincoln Center, and I have seen this at Hudson Yards in the past as well –
